Training Check Ups

Do a regular training check up.

Is your dog's momentum improving?

It should be, and if it isn't you need to figure out what to change right away, sooner than later.

Is his attitude and work ethic improving?

Like momentum your dogs work ethic should be improving, he should be wanting to come out and do the work with greater effort, if he's not…switch something up…it could be a minor habit of your own that needs fixing.

Are the behaviors you're teaching him becoming increasingly more reliable, and fluent?

If you're getting lots of repetitions of newly taught behaviors, without going to the point of boredom or breakdown, your dog will become more reliable and fluent at those behaviors. That's what you're looking for.

Are the behaviors you're teaching him transition able, generalize able? Meaning, are you able to get the behaviors in increasingly more environments and situations?

Keep your dog in balance throughout his training; keep his momentum and training attitude up. Use his enthusiasm and momentum in his taught tasks as barometers of your training success and clarity.
